Hello!  I’m Christa and I’m delighted you are here!

 

My story begins as the baby of my family, following after my brother and sister. Our parents raised us in the Southern California area, only 10 miles from the nearest beach. Later, as an adult, while taking a Marketing class in college, I met my future husband James and he swept me off my feet, we got married and we moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. 25 years later, we still live in the desert and managed to raise two beautiful children, James and Jasmine who are now adults. We currently have two fur-babies; a black lab named Lacey, and a tiny jack-chi named Tucker.

My love for crafts began at a young age always watching my mom do crafty things for our school’s PTA and later for Boy Scouts and then for Girl Scouts.  Later on in elementary school, I remember drawing pictures, painting, and creating things because it was something I never really had to work hard at, it seemed to come natural and I loved it! That love for creating never stopped and continued as an adult and as a Mommy.  I was always doing something crafty to my home, with my kids, or with their school and always at church where I was asked to assist in making something or even leading Crafts in VBS.

Crafts combined with a new love of photography lead me into the new world of scrapbooking.  The camera I actually gave to my new husband James some 25 years ago as a wedding gift became a new “craft” for me and my tiny babies became my subjects.  With all the pictures I constantly took, I needed to store them somewhere so I found photo albums that were fun to put together.  As I started scrapbooking more,  I discovered a Cricut Die Cutting Machine and from then on I was hooked into the scrapbooking world. It combined everything I loved: crafts, colors, design, photos, creating.

With the discovery of Pinterest, I searched constantly for scrapbooking ideas and layouts and pinned 100’s of Pins to my Scrapbook Board.  One day, about 4 years ago on Pinterest, I saw a Pin of a beautiful drawing in someone’s Bible, it peaked my interest. I started searching for similar Bible drawing Pins and suddenly realized this was something I wanted to do to. I couldn’t believe it was a “thing” to color & draw in your Bible! From then on my journey into Bible Art Journaling (BAJ), or as I fondly call this new community: ArtisticWord.  BAJ continues to be a constant love for me as a new craft and an even greater way to be inspired by the words of God!  The best part is that I also incorporate many aspects and tools from scrapbooking, media art journaling, painting, drawing, and coloring.

It’s interesting, now that I spend so much time on one verse drawing it in calligraphy in my Bible then surrounding it with beautiful designs like butterflies, or flowers, or even the ocean, I am now memorizing my verses easier! A creative mind works and processes so much different than others, and I definitely found out I am just like that. I am a very visual person, so when I read something, I usually try to figure out visually in my mind what the writer is conveying.

I now lead, with a Team of great Ladies, many ArtisticWord Workshops here locally teaching techniques, tips, and tricks all around the Vegas Valley.  Word is getting around quickly about BAJ, so ArtisticWord is now commissioned to do an upcoming Workshop to teach in the Los Angeles area soon!  I also host a monthly ArtisticWord night with the Ladies from my church and friends from others churches into my home to gather, fellowship, and get inspired with creativity in our Bibles. Oh, we also bring lots of delicious food to enjoy and hang out! It’s always fun to see how artistic these Ladies are! We share ideas, tools, and supplies and even gift each other with new and fun gadgets.
